Working With Older Students

Extend this idea into a larger project for older students by using the ideas below.

• Partner with a community newspaper, radio or television station to produce regular features highlighting local history your students have written.
  
• Work with a local museum to turn students' work into an audio or multimedia exhibit.
• Expand the idea of oral history to include the stories of people in the community who are often marginalized: street kids, the elderly, recent immigrants, etc.
• Focus on the methods of studying and presenting history. Have students explore sources to situate the oral stories within their historical context.
