Working With Younger Students

Extend the idea into a larger project for younger students by using the ideas below. Involve experts to help shape the final product.

  • Create a book or class website to tell the story of your community. Think of this as created by kids, for kids. Each child contributes an individual piece and the class as a whole becomes involved in all the editing and publishing decisions to make the project appealing to others.
  • Create a children's museum in your school to display what children have learned.
  • Children might write a play as part of the museum exhibition or re-create rooms or locations that include the objects and the stories they have researched. Consider creating an online version as well.
  • Create artwork featuring drawings of the artifacts and ideas collected in the interviews. Make multiple prints of the work and sell them at fundraisers, or give them out at local historical events.
